Why Nano was a commercial flop for Tata???
One of the most anticipated car that came out in this century known as the ''World's''Cheapest Car'', Nano was a milestone not only for Tata Motors but also for Indian automobile industry. However after nearly a decade looking back, Nano is seen as a financial disaster for Tata. And the reason for it? No, it was not the car. In fact everyone liked it, including me. I think it was a very great car for the price. So what was the reason??? Well it was the very catch phrase that was used to publicize the car. Truth was that nobody wanted to be seen in the cheapest car ever produced. Especially in a market like India, a motorcar was the sign of prosperity and buying one was the sign of you making a transition to a better quality of life. Maruti doesn't advertise Alto as the cheapest car, same goes for Renault or Hyundai. It was that bad image that forever associated Nano with the word 'cheap'. Truth to be told, the car never deserved it. Even today when its no more a 1 Lakh Rupee car, its still is a very practical, efficient micro car. And fortunately, Tata isn't giving up on the little car. Instead of killing it, the company is still seeing potential in Nano and have announced a full electric eNano which will come out by mid-2018. This is considered by many as a reboot for the micro-car.
